The Enterprise tool for changing fields, views and automation

The Enterprise tool used to customize Odoo without writing code, covering fields, views, models, automation and a PDF report editor.
What it does
Studio is, in the words of Odoo's own documentation, a toolbox used to customize Odoo without coding knowledge. It is opened with the Studio icon from inside any application. Adding fields, editing views, creating new models and applications, and defining automation rules, webhooks, PDF reports, approval rules and access rules are all done there. It is Enterprise-only and installing it can affect your pricing plan.
Editing fields and views
Simple fields such as text, integer, decimal, monetary, date, selection, checkbox, file, image and signature are added, along with Many2One, One2Many, Many2Many, tag and related field types. Form, list, kanban, calendar, pivot and graph views are edited by dragging components into place.
Creating models and apps
A model can be created from scratch. While setting it up you tick ready-made features such as contact details, user assignment, date and calendar, stages, tags, lines, notes, monetary value, company, chatter and archiving. The basic structure then comes in without being built by hand.
Automation and approval rules
An automation rule is made of a trigger and an action: when a field value changes, when a record is created, or on a time condition, it updates a record, sends an email or SMS, creates an activity or calls a webhook. An approval step can be added to a button, with its approvers and approval order.
PDF report editor
The report template is changed in a visual editor. A slash command inserts fields, tables, images and conditional blocks. The font, primary and secondary colours, logo, footer and paper format are set from the company document layout settings.
We don't just install the module — we fit it to your business
ASON separates which request Studio can cover from which one needs development; builds the field, view, automation and report changes in Studio, exports the work as the studio_customization module, and hands its upkeep over to your team.

Frequently asked questions
Can Studio be used on the Community edition?
No. Studio comes with an Odoo Enterprise subscription; on a Community installation it does not appear in the app list. If you want to stay on Community, the same customisations are done as development work, shown as a separate development line in the quote.
Can everything be done in Studio without writing code?
No. Studio handles adding fields, editing views, automation rules and report changes from the interface. But for complex business rules the execute code action of an automation rule requires Python, and detailed report conditions and some view edits are made in the XML editor. ASON tells you in advance which request stays within Studio's scope. Work that falls outside that scope is written into the quote as a separate development line.
Can we add our own fields to Odoo screens?
Yes. Simple fields such as text, integer, decimal, monetary, date, selection, checkbox, file, image and signature are added. For fields that link to other records, the Many2One, One2Many, Many2Many, tag and related field types are used. Form, list, kanban, calendar, pivot and graph views are edited by dragging components into place.
Can we run an action automatically when a condition is met?
Yes. An automation rule is made of a trigger and an action: it runs when a field value changes, when a record is created, or on a time condition. The action can be updating a record, creating a record, creating an activity, sending an email, SMS or WhatsApp message, adding followers or sending a webhook notification. The execute code action requires Python.
Can we change the quotation and invoice PDFs to our own layout?
Yes. The report template is changed in a visual editor; a slash command inserts fields, tables, images and conditional blocks. The font, primary and secondary colours, logo, footer and paper format are set from the company document layout settings. Detailed report conditions fall to the XML editor.
Does installing Studio affect my subscription?
Odoo's documentation states this explicitly: while you are on the Standard pricing plan, installing Studio upgrades the plan to Custom. On a yearly contract an upsell order is created for this and is valid for 30 days. On a monthly contract the plan switches immediately and the new rate applies at the next billing cycle. Check Odoo's pricing page for the current amount.
Will our Studio changes be lost on an upgrade?
What you do in Studio is collected in a module called studio_customization, which can be exported as a zip file. The target database must run the same Odoo version with the same applications installed. Editing standard or inherited views directly in the XML editor should be avoided; those changes can be reset during an update.
