Dashboards

A personal board collecting the views you check often

Dashboards

The per-user dashboard module where you add list, pivot and graph views to your own board and arrange them.

What it does

The Dashboards module is built on top of Odoo views. You open a list, pivot or graph view and add it to your board from the gear icon next to the view name. The board belongs to the user: you choose the column layout, drag components around, collapse them or remove them. Odoo's documentation states that, unlike the other dashboards, this board is not based on Odoo Spreadsheet but directly on views.

Adding a view to the board

The gear icon next to the view name opens the dashboard option, where the component is named and added. List, kanban, map, calendar, pivot and graph views can be added; the cohort and gantt views come with the paid edition. The component appears on the board after the page is refreshed.

Layout and arrangement

The number of columns is set from the change layout option at the top right. In a multi-column layout the caret icons at the bottom show where the columns divide. Components are dragged and dropped within a column or between columns. When the column count is reduced, components are merged together.

Component control

Each component is collapsed and expanded with the icon at its top right and deleted from the board with the remove icon. The board layout is stored per user. A change one user makes on their board does not affect another user's board.

Filtering limit

When you need a different cut, you open the source view, apply the filter and grouping there, and add the view to the board again. A view that is already on the board cannot be filtered or grouped from the board itself.

We don't just install the module — we fit it to your business

ASON works out which team follows which view on a regular basis; defines the filters and groupings needed on the source view, sets up the board layout per role, and demonstrates the add-to-board step hands-on to your users.

Technical scope

Available in the Community and Enterprise editions (board module, LGPL-3)
In Odoo 19 the board module depends on the spreadsheet_dashboard module; both must be installed for the personal board
The spreadsheet dashboards are part of the Community edition as well (LGPL-3)
Called Dashboards in Odoo; the personal board is called My Dashboard
Views that can be added: list, kanban, map, calendar, pivot, graph (cohort and gantt with the paid edition)
Path to add: the gear icon next to the view name > dashboard > add to my dashboard
The column layout is set from the change layout option at the top right
Components are dragged and dropped, collapsed and removed from the board
The board layout belongs to the user and is stored per user
A view added to the board cannot be filtered or grouped from the board
A spreadsheet that has been converted into a dashboard can only be opened from the Dashboards application

Frequently asked questions

Are the personal board and a spreadsheet dashboard the same thing?

No. The personal board is built on Odoo views and shows the list, pivot or graph as it is. Spreadsheet dashboards are built on Odoo Spreadsheet and are prepared with cells, formulas and charts. Odoo's documentation draws this distinction explicitly. The two live in the same application but are used for different purposes. ASON decides which of the two fits a given need before installation.

Which modules have to be installed for the personal board?

Dashboards is available in both the Community and the Enterprise edition. In Odoo 19 the personal board works together with the spreadsheet dashboards, and both have to be switched on for the board to work. Both are part of Community, so you pay no extra licence for it on a Community installation.

Which views can we add to the board?

List, kanban, map, calendar, pivot and graph views can be added to the board; the cohort and gantt views come with the paid edition. You add them from the gear icon next to the view name: the dashboard option opens, the component is named and added to your board. The component appears on the board after the page is refreshed.

Can we arrange the board layout ourselves?

Yes. The number of columns is set from the change layout option at the top right. Components are dragged and dropped within a column or between columns, collapsed with the icon at their top right, and deleted with the remove icon. When the column count is reduced, components are merged together. The layout is stored per user.

Can I share my board with my colleagues?

The personal board belongs to the user; each user builds their own layout and that layout does not pass to anyone else. If a team has to follow the same screen, a shared filter and grouping is defined on the source view and each user adds that same view to their own board. ASON prepares this arrangement per role during installation. Data the whole team has to follow can also be moved to a spreadsheet dashboard.

The report I added shows the wrong cut. What should I do?

Filtering and grouping cannot be done from the board. For the right cut, open the source view, apply the filter and grouping you want, then add the view to the board again. Delete the old component with the remove icon. The new component appears on the board after the page is refreshed. For cuts that change often, a saved filter on the source view is more practical.
