The Enterprise application where internal requests such as purchases, contracts, payments and business trips are raised and approved in one place.
What it does
The Approvals application brings internal requests together in one list. You define the approval types yourself: for each type you set what information is asked for and who approves it. The employee raises the request, the approvers are notified, and each one approves or refuses from their own screen. A colour-coded tag shows the stage the request is at. Approvals comes with the Enterprise edition.
Approval type configuration
Each request type is defined separately, and you choose which information is required and which is optional for that type. Odoo lists purchases, contracts, payments, business trips, hardware upgrades and borrowing items as examples. Types specific to your company are created in the same place.
Approvers and approval levels
Approvers are set per request type, so each request reaches the right person. An approver can also be added to a single request, and whether that person's approval is required is selected there. More than one approval level can be defined; the request is not settled until it passes every level.
Request screen and stages
The employee raises the request and the approver is notified. The approver gives a decision from their own screen. The stage the request sits in is shown with a colour-coded tag. A user lists both the requests they raised and the ones waiting on them from a single screen, without having to ask around.
Documents and discussion
Relevant documents are attached to the request; an attachment can be uploaded when the request is raised or later in the process, when an approver asks for it. The chatter on the request record is used to discuss before approving or refusing. The decision and its reasoning stay in that record's history.

Frequently asked questions
Does this application work in the Community edition?
No. Approvals comes with the Enterprise edition; on a Community installation it does not appear in the list of applications. If your need falls on approval flows, you will see the licence cost as a separate line in the project quote. ASON states in writing at the start of the project which application runs in which edition.
Can we define our own request types?

Are Approvals and Studio approval rules the same thing?
No, they are two different structures. The Approvals application opens a separate request record and runs the request on its own screen. Studio approval rules add an approval step to a button on an existing record; pressing that button is made conditional on the approver's decision. Both depend on an Enterprise subscription and can be used together.
Do we need a separate module for a purchase request?
The Approvals application runs the request and the approval chain; the purchase order itself is created in the Purchase module. Purchases, contracts and payments are among the example request types Odoo lists. ASON determines how the two flows are connected during the process review and states in writing which step sits in which application.
