Multi-step campaign workflows that branch on the response

Builds campaign workflows that apply time-based and response-based steps to a target audience.
What it does
A campaign consists of a target record type, a filter and a sequence of activities. Each activity can be an email, an SMS or a server action. The workflow branches on the result of the previous step: you define separate steps for those who did not open, did not click or did not reply. A campaign can be tested before it is opened to the whole audience.
Target and filter
A campaign runs on a single record type: lead/opportunity, contact, event registration and so on. The filter narrows those records down and shows the matching count. The unicity field keeps the same person from becoming a participant more than once; the email field is usually chosen.
Triggers
An activity either runs at the start of the workflow or attaches to another activity. The triggers for attached activities are: mail opened, not opened, replied, not replied, clicked, not clicked, bounced. For SMS the options are clicked, not clicked and bounced.
Delay and expiry
For each activity you write how long to wait after the trigger, in hours, days, weeks or months. A separate expiry duration can also be defined: an activity that does not run within that period is cancelled. Each activity can be given its own filter, which combines with the campaign filter.
Campaign templates
Instead of building from scratch, you can start from one of six campaign templates: Tag Hot Contacts, Welcome Flow, Double Opt-in, Commercial Prospection, Scheduled Calls and Prioritize Hot Leads. Once a template is loaded, the steps and the timings can be changed.
We don't just install the module — we fit it to your business
ASON builds your campaign workflows from the target record, the filter and the sequenced steps; sets branches such as not opened or not clicked and the waiting times, defines the unicity field, and tests the workflow before opening it to the whole audience.

Frequently asked questions
Can I use it in the Community edition?
No. Marketing Automation is an Enterprise-only app. Email Marketing, SMS Marketing, Events and Surveys come with the Community edition. If you need automation, an Enterprise subscription is required. Before the setup ASON lists which app sits in which edition, and you decide on that basis.
What does the workflow branch on?
An activity either runs at the start of the workflow or attaches to another activity. The email triggers for attached activities are: mail opened, not opened, replied, not replied, clicked, not clicked, bounced. For SMS the options are clicked, not clicked and bounced. So you define separate steps for those who opened and those who did not.
How do I set the waiting time between steps?
For each activity you write how long to wait after the trigger, given in hours, days, weeks or months. A second message three days later can be defined for anyone who did not open the email, for example. Each activity can also be given its own filter, which combines with the campaign filter to narrow who the step runs for.
What happens to a step that does not run in time?
An activity can be given an expiry duration separate from its delay. An activity that does not run within that period is cancelled without being executed, so it is not sent late and does not reach the recipient at the wrong moment. Which activities ran is followed from the activity traces across all campaigns under Reporting.
What is the server action step for?
It is the third activity type, alongside email and SMS. Instead of sending a message it carries out an operation in the database: adding a tag to a record, updating a field, creating a new record and the like. That way one step of the workflow is an internal record change rather than outside communication. For example, you can automatically tag someone who opened all three emails you sent and move them onto a separate list.
Can the same person enter a campaign more than once?
The unicity field on the campaign form prevents that. The email field is usually chosen; of the records sharing an email address, only one becomes a participant. Another field on the target model can be chosen instead. Whether archived records are included in the campaign is a separate option. The filter screen shows how many records the campaign matches before anything is sent.
Do I have to build a campaign from scratch?
No. You can start from one of six campaign templates: Tag Hot Contacts, Welcome Flow, Double Opt-in, Commercial Prospection, Scheduled Calls and Prioritize Hot Leads. Once a template is loaded, the steps, the timings and the filters can be changed. A campaign can be tested before it is opened to the whole audience.
