Equipment records, periodic maintenance and breakdown requests
Keeps the maintenance plan for machines and work centers, and tracks breakdown requests through their stages.
What it does
The Maintenance module works with equipment records. For each piece of equipment, the responsible person, location, vendor and warranty information are kept; equipment can be linked to a work center. Requests are split into preventive and corrective. When maintenance is scheduled for a work center, you can block the center so that no work order is scheduled on it during that time.
Equipment record
A record is opened for assets such as machines, molds and measuring instruments. Serial number, user, location, warranty expiry and vendor fields are kept. When a piece of equipment is linked to a work center, its maintenance history is associated with that work center.
Preventive and corrective maintenance
A corrective request is opened for equipment that is broken or otherwise unusable. Preventive maintenance is scheduled to prevent a breakdown. Both types are tracked on the same kanban board: they are moved by dragging between the new request, repaired and scrap stages.
Blocking a work center
When a request is opened for a work center, the option to block the center appears. When it is blocked, no other work order or maintenance is scheduled on that center for the duration of the maintenance. The production plan shifts accordingly.
MTBF and MTTR
From past breakdown records, Odoo calculates the mean time between failures (MTBF) and the mean time to repair (MTTR). These values are followed on the equipment linked to a work center and are used when reviewing the maintenance plan.

How do we record the machines on the production line?
An equipment record is opened for each machine; serial number, location, responsible person, vendor and warranty expiry date are entered. The same record is used for assets such as molds and measuring instruments. If the equipment is linked to a work center, maintenance and breakdown records appear in that center's history.
How are preventive and corrective maintenance separated?
A corrective request is opened for equipment that is broken or otherwise unusable. Preventive maintenance is planned in advance to prevent a breakdown. Both types are tracked on the same kanban board; a request is moved by dragging between the new request, repaired and scrap stages. Each request is assigned a responsible person and a scheduled date.
Does Odoo calculate MTBF and MTTR?
Yes. From past breakdown records, Odoo calculates the mean time between failures (MTBF) and the mean time to repair (MTTR). The values are followed on the equipment linked to a work center. Both are looked at when reviewing the maintenance plan; the interval for equipment that fails often can be tightened accordingly.
Is periodic maintenance tracked?
Yes. A preventive maintenance interval is defined for the equipment, and the request is opened together with a scheduled date. Requests are listed by date in the maintenance calendar view and assigned to a responsible person. When the maintenance is done, the request is moved to the repaired stage and a new record is scheduled for the next interval.
Is the production plan affected during maintenance?
A maintenance request opened for a work center has an option to block the center. When it is blocked, no work order is assigned to that center for the period the maintenance is scheduled, and the production plan shifts accordingly. This option does not appear on requests opened for a piece of equipment; if you want to stop the center, you need to open the request on the work center.
Can we assign maintenance requests to a team and a responsible person?
Yes. Maintenance teams are defined, and each request is assigned to a team and a responsible person. The request has scheduled date and estimated duration fields. In the maintenance calendar view, requests are listed by date, so the jobs falling in the same week are visible together.
Are the Maintenance and Repair modules available in the Community edition?
As far as we know these two modules are in the Community edition, but we confirm that against the app list of the current version before implementation. What is clear is that Quality and PLM are specific to Odoo Enterprise. We settle the edition decision together, after that check and the list of requirements.
