Spreadsheet

A spreadsheet and dashboard connected live to Odoo data

Spreadsheet

Inserts pivot tables, lists and charts from Odoo into a spreadsheet; when the spreadsheet is opened, it pulls the data from the database again.

What it does

Spreadsheet exists to do away with the habit of exporting Odoo data and passing it around by email. When you insert a list, pivot or chart view into a spreadsheet, Odoo creates a data source; that source connects the spreadsheet to the database. Every time the spreadsheet is opened, the page is reloaded, or it is refreshed by hand from the menu, current data is pulled. Dashboards are built on these spreadsheets too.

Inserting Odoo data

A list view, a pivot view and a graph view are inserted straight into a spreadsheet. You insert into a new spreadsheet or into an existing one. The data source created during the insertion establishes the connection; the spreadsheet is no longer a copy but a view of the database.

Pulling data with formulas

List data is read with the ODOO.LIST and ODOO.LIST.HEADER formulas, and pivot data with the PIVOT.VALUE and PIVOT.HEADER formulas. Measures are written together with their aggregation, for example product_uom_qty:sum. That way you lay the cells out to suit your own report format and do the calculations in between with ordinary spreadsheet formulas.

Global filters

Global filters that apply to several Odoo data sources at once can be defined. When you change the period or company filter once, every pivot table and list in the spreadsheet updates together. There is no need to copy the same report for different breakdowns.

Dashboards

Odoo dashboards are built on spreadsheets. You change a ready-made dashboard by editing the spreadsheet underneath it, and you build one from scratch by creating a spreadsheet. The command palette is reached with Ctrl + K, so you can pick an action without going through the menus.

We don't just install the module — we fit it to your business

ASON moves the reports you use into a spreadsheet from the pivot and list views; builds your own report layout with the ODOO.LIST and PIVOT.VALUE formulas, defines global filters for period and company, and hands dashboard upkeep over to your team.

Frequently asked questions

Does it replace Excel?

Its aim is not to replace Excel entirely, but to turn Odoo data into reports. The gain is this: the report file is no longer a copy updated by hand, but a live view connected to the database. The complex Excel files you have used for years can stay where they are. We choose together which report is worth moving to the Odoo side, by looking at who updates that report and how often.

Can we import our existing spreadsheet files into Odoo?

Existing spreadsheet files can be imported as Odoo spreadsheets. You edit the imported file inside Odoo and add lists and pivot tables connected to Odoo data onto it. We choose together which file is worth moving, by looking at who updates it and how often.

When is the data in the spreadsheet updated?

The data source pulls current figures every time you open the spreadsheet, reload the browser page, or refresh it by hand from the menu. Charts refresh by themselves on opening and on reload; lists and pivot tables also have a manual refresh option. So the monthly report you open in the morning comes with today's data, not yesterday's.

Can we lay the report out the way we want?

You can. List data is read with the ODOO.LIST and ODOO.LIST.HEADER formulas and pivot data with PIVOT.VALUE and PIVOT.HEADER; you write the measure together with its aggregation, for example product_uom_qty:sum. You lay the cells out to suit your own report format and do the calculations in between with ordinary spreadsheet formulas.

Do we have to copy the same report for every period and company?

No. You define global filters that apply to several Odoo data sources at once. When you change the period or company filter once, every pivot table and list in the spreadsheet updates together. You use a single file for different breakdowns.

Can we edit the dashboards ourselves?

Odoo dashboards are built on spreadsheets. You change a ready-made dashboard by editing the spreadsheet underneath it, and for a dashboard from scratch you create a new spreadsheet. The command palette is reached with Ctrl + K, so you pick an action without going through the menus.

Can I share the report with my team?

Because Spreadsheet is part of the Documents app, sharing works with the access arrangement there. You can invite someone as a viewer or an editor, share by link, and put an expiration date on the access. Since the data itself stays bound to Odoo access rights, a user cannot see through a spreadsheet data they could not already see.
